Hire cost and budgeting guide

How much does it cost to hire a humanoid robot in the UK?

An honest answer to the question every organisation asks first. What drives humanoid robot hire pricing in the UK, how to think about budget before approaching providers, and what to expect when you ask for a quote.

Published 20 September 2026 by Humanoid Robot Hire

Humanoid robot hire in the UK does not have a published price list. Providers do not post day rates on their websites, and any figure you find quoted online is likely to be out of date, incomplete or from a market that does not apply to a UK engagement. This is frustrating if you are trying to sanity-check a budget before committing to a conversation. This guide is our attempt to give you the most honest possible answer based on what is publicly known and what the structure of the market tells us, without inventing numbers that would mislead you.

Why there is no standard price list

The reasons humanoid robot hire is quoted, not listed

The absence of published pricing is not evasion. It reflects the genuine nature of the market. There are several reasons why humanoid robot hire is always priced by quotation.

First, the robots themselves vary significantly. The hire market includes everything from capable but relatively simple social robots to advanced humanoid platforms with sophisticated motion, voice and interaction capabilities. A quote for a simpler robot is not comparable to a quote for a full humanoid. When providers give a price, it is for a specific robot doing a specific thing.

Second, the majority of event hire includes an operator. The operator's day rate, travel time and any preparation work before the event are real costs that vary by job. A London-based provider attending an event in Manchester quotes a different travel cost to one attending an event in central London. These variables cannot be reduced to a single figure without losing accuracy.

Third, the market is genuinely specialist and small. Providers in this space manage a small fleet of expensive hardware. Unlike commodity AV or furniture hire, there is no volume at which pricing becomes highly standardised. Each booking is assessed on its own requirements.

None of this is an excuse. It is the reality of where this market is in 2026. Understanding it helps you approach providers in a way that gets you a useful, comparable response.

The cost components

What you are actually paying for when you hire a humanoid robot

Breaking down what sits behind a hire quote helps you understand whether a quote is reasonable and where the real cost is concentrated. For a typical UK event hire, the cost components are:

The robot itself

Humanoid and advanced robots are expensive capital assets. The purchase cost of the robots available for hire in the UK runs from tens of thousands to several hundred thousand pounds per unit, depending on the platform. The hire rate needs to account for depreciation, maintenance, storage and insurance of hardware that is sophisticated and costly to repair. This is the baseline beneath every quote.

The operator

Virtually all UK event hire is operated hire: the provider supplies a trained technician alongside the robot. The operator is responsible for transit, setup, safe operation throughout the event and breakdown. Their day rate plus travel time is a significant component of the hire cost. For events outside London, travel time alone can add several hours to the billable engagement. This is appropriate and necessary; do not try to negotiate the operator out of the package unless you have verifiably equivalent technical expertise in your own team and the provider is comfortable with dry hire.

Setup and breakdown

Setup time before the event and breakdown time after it are real time costs. For a complex event with scripted interactions, setup may require several hours. For a simpler presence hire, setup might be an hour. Providers typically factor this into the day rate; for long-duration setup requirements, it may be quoted separately. Ask about this when you request a quote so you understand what the rate includes.

Pre-event preparation and programming

If you want the robot to deliver specific scripted content, carry branded visual elements or respond to defined interactions, this requires preparation work before the event. Programming and customisation is usually quoted as a separate line item from the hire itself, either as a project fee or as additional day rates for the preparation period. The more bespoke the requirement, the more this adds to the total cost. Simple scripted messages may require only a few hours of preparation; complex interaction sequences may require days.

Travel and logistics

For events outside the provider's home area, travel costs are real. This includes the provider's time, transport costs for the robot (which may require specialist handling) and any overnight accommodation for multi-day events. UK providers are concentrated in London and the South East. Events in the North, Scotland or rural areas should expect travel costs to be a more significant component of the total. This is not a reason to avoid hiring a robot for a regional event; it is a reason to factor it in accurately.

What the market tells us

An honest assessment of the UK pricing landscape

We do not publish price ranges for individual providers because we cannot verify their current pricing and publishing unverified figures would mislead you. What we can say, honestly, based on the structure of the market, is the following.

Humanoid robot hire for a UK event is a specialist service and it is priced in that bracket. It is more expensive than standard AV, staging or catering hire, but it is not in the same cost bracket as bespoke live entertainment acts or major experiential marketing productions. For organisations that have previously hired interactive technology for events, the cost is likely to be broadly comparable to other premium interactive installations, though specific comparisons depend on the provider and the requirement.

For Robotics-as-a-Service (RaaS) deployments, a figure of approximately USD 25 per robot-operating-hour has been reported in published commentary on early industrial deployments, specifically in the context of humanoid robots in manufacturing settings. We cite this as a single reported data point from a specific industrial context. It is not a benchmark for UK event hire or SME applications, and it may not reflect current UK provider pricing at all. We include it because it is widely cited and organisations encounter it in their research; its relevance to your specific use case is unknown until you have direct quotes.

The most effective way to build a budget for a humanoid robot hire is to approach two or three UK providers with a clear brief and compare the quotes you receive. Providers in this market are accustomed to initial budget-checking conversations and are generally willing to give a ballpark range once they understand the requirement. The brief does not need to be fully specified; a clear description of the event type, location, date, duration and what you want the robot to do is sufficient to get a useful initial response.

Budget framing

How to think about budget before you approach providers

The most useful thing you can take into a first conversation with a provider is an honest budget frame. Providers who know your budget can propose a solution that fits rather than pitching their maximum-capability offering. You do not need to commit to a number; giving a range and asking whether it is realistic for your requirement is a reasonable way to open the conversation.

A few questions that help define your budget before the call:

  • What is the total event budget, and what proportion could the robot hire represent without distorting the overall event economics?
  • Is the robot the centrepiece of the event, in which case a higher allocation is justified, or is it one element among several?
  • Does the requirement involve bespoke scripting or programming, which adds cost on top of the base hire rate?
  • Is the event in London or another major city (lower travel cost) or regional (add travel)?
  • Is it a single day or multi-day? Multi-day hires often achieve a better effective daily rate than single-day bookings.

Approaching the conversation with these questions answered will get you to a useful quote faster and reduce the chance of an expensive surprise when the formal proposal arrives.

RaaS pricing

How Robotics-as-a-Service is structured commercially

For organisations considering ongoing or recurring deployment rather than a one-off event hire, RaaS pricing works on an entirely different basis. Rather than a day rate or event fee, a RaaS contract is structured as a recurring subscription for robot availability, typically monthly or annually. The monthly rate covers the robot's presence, maintenance, software updates and defined uptime guarantees. The customer does not own the hardware.

RaaS contracts are negotiated directly between the provider and the customer and their pricing reflects the specific deployment: the number of hours of operation per day, the length of the contract, the required uptime level and the complexity of the operating environment. There is no published rate card for UK RaaS in the public domain. Organisations considering RaaS deployments should approach UK providers with a detailed description of the intended use case and operational requirements and expect a structured proposal in return.

Our guide on Robotics-as-a-Service and hire pricing explained covers the RaaS model in more depth, including the key commercial considerations when evaluating a RaaS contract.
